Zarif, Lavrov to discuss JCPOA on Mon.

TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (MNA) – Iranian and Russin FMs will meet on Mon. to discuss JCPOA, expansion of cooperation and regional issues, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov will meet in Moscow on Monday to discuss the Iranian nuclear program and peace efforts in Syria.  

The two ministers will also discuss various ways to expand bilateral relations, "taking into account the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for regulating the situation around the Iranian nuclear program," the statement read.

The statement also highlighted the significance of the meeting considering how relations between the two countries have warmed over recent years, which shows “the great understanding between Moscow and Tehran and their mutual resolution in strengthening bilateral relations.”

“Relations with Iran as one of Russia's close partners in the region is based on friendship, long-standing good neighborliness, as well as mutual trust and equality; the agreements signed between the two countries and deepening of cooperation in various fields from trade and tourism to dialogue among religions amounts to further security in the region,” the statement said.

Zarif’s visit would come as part of his second tour of regional countries after Iran nuclear talks concluded in the Austrian capital of Vienna in July 14. In this tour, which was launched on Tuesday, the Iranian minister visited Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, and India. Russia will be the last leg of his second regional tour.
